"Twelve fifteen.  Wes, I can set my watch to you,” Nia said to the man entering the Bright Lights Jewelry
store.

“Punctual but never predictable,” Wes replied.

In his well-worn jeans, scuffed-up work boots and light blue sweatshirt, he looked more like a diner at the
hot dog restaurant next door where they had eaten once together instead of a customer at this high-end
jewelry shop.  Her head still reeled from that lunch.

Wes ran his hand through his shaggy, dark brown hair and flashed a knee-buckling grin. His piercing
green eyes twinkled.

After pushing her curly, light brown hair from her face, Nia met his gaze.  She caught his unmistakable
masculine scent of fresh burning wood, a musky cologne and pine needles.

“I think you just like hanging around the store, don’t you?”  She put her hands to her voluptuous hips in
a teasing manner.

Surrendering with his hands in the air, he said, “After three months, you found me out.”  He slid one over
hers in an intimate and possessive manner.  “I’ve been trying to figure out your perfume.  Lean over.”

Without hesitation, Nia eased forward as he did the same.  Positioning his head next to hers, he nuzzled
his nose into the side of her neck, sending electric sparks over her heated flesh.

When she felt his lips touch the sensitive skin under her jaw, she let out a small moan and closed her
eyes to savor the moment.

“Lavender,” she managed to say after swallowing hard.

“Mystery solved.” He pulled back, which caused her to right herself behind the counter.  “I need another
bracelet.”  He made the proclamation but never dropped his gaze.

Scanning the bracelets in the counter, she noticed one that caught her eye.

As though reading her thoughts Wes asked, “Which one do you like?”

“The diamond tennis bracelet there.”  With great reluctance, she removed her hands from under his to
set the bracelet on the counter for his inspection.

“It is beautiful,” he said, continuing to stare at her.  “Would you try it on?”

Pulling back her dress sleeve, she allowed him to wrap it around her wrist.  Even Nia couldn’t help but to
rotate her hand to watch the adornment glittering in the overhead lighting.

“The woman you plan on giving this to is a lucky gal.”

Wes reached for his wallet.  “That reminds me.  What time do you get off?”

Her heart fluttered.  “Six.”

“Perfect.  Will you meet me next door at the hot dog place and bring this bracelet with you when you get
off?  It’s part of a surprise.”

Her heart sank thinking that he could want her to bring this piece of jewelry for another woman.  But she
smiled through her pain and agreed.
